ANNUAL MAD DOG “HAIR OF THE DOG” NEW YEAR’S DAY RACE

Come join The Mad Dogs at 12 noon on New Year's Day, January 1st, in St. Petersburg at Ft. DeSoto Park’s North Beach for the Annual Hair of The Dog Triathlon (” The Unofficial Season Opener”).

Bring your drink of choice and a dish to share for the cook-out and social afterwards & don’t forget that old t-shirt to be eligible for the great raffle prizes!

The #1 rule for this event? Have fun! If You Can’t Race with the MAD DOGS, Stay On The Porch and Don’t Bark!

History of Hair of the Dog

Each year we meet at High Noon on January 1st at Ft. DeSoto’s North Beach to do an unofficial, un-timed sprint distance triathlon consisting of a little less than a quarter mile swim (wetsuit recommended — it ranges from 56-62 degrees), a ten mile bike, and a three mile run including the Fort. The entry fee is one old, but clean, race t-shirt.

You can click here for a map of Ft. DeSoto, which is located off the Pinellas Bayway between St. Pete Beach and Tierre Verde. Please bring change and plan for tolls.

In March of 2008, the Club accepted this informal race as a membership qualifier–provided a potential member swims the entire swim, bikes the entire bike, and completes the full distance of the run (yup, even up and down the stairs of the Fort). As always, we say: do one, do more and do better!

Afterwards, we have a pot-luck social with a hot grill, hot dogs and hamburgers provided.

The official “Winner” of the Hair of the Dog Triathlon isn’t the fastest: it’s the person who draws a special “Hair of the Dog” race t-shirt designated that year, of which only one is made.

It’s the best way we can think of to kick off the New Year. Please make plans to join us! If you have any questions, write to events@stpetemaddogs.org.
